So, I’ve been having this little ‘discussion’ (and I put ‘discussion’ in quotes because it’s hardly a discussion when one of the sides is acting so rudely) with this guy on the this Message Board (Read The Thread) that I frequent occasionally about Tgirls being taken advantage of in the Shemale Porn Industry. Well, actually, I started the thread talking about stolen content and how it hurts the overall industry but it kind of took a little tangent…anyway…
Quite honestly, maybe I’ve just been very, very lucky with the few production companies that I’ve had the pleasure of working with in my ongoing years as part of the Adult Industry. I’ve never felt ‘taken advantage of’ or exploited in any way. Now, to be fair, maybe this has something to do with me having some business sense and never putting myself in situations that were out of my control but it seems to me that, at least here in the US, the Shemale Porn Industry is, on the whole, pretty good to its models.
I don’t think a lot of people realize how small the Shemale niche is compared to the overall ‘adult’ or ‘mainstream’ porn world. If you’re a Shemale porn producer and you treat one of your models badly, word is going to get around and pretty soon, no one of any consequence is going to want to work with you. Although there are always up and comers waiting for the spotlight, I think the ones that can truly launch a successful career, which takes a lot of drive and determination, are few and far between. So, I think overall, Shemale porn producers pretty much know they need to treat their models well. Then again, I’ve only worked with a couple businesses and, like I said, they were good peeps (yes, I just typed, ‘peeps’).
So, if you read the thread I was talking about, I’m not sure where this guy is getting the idea that all the Tgirls are getting taken advantage of and the Shemale Porn Industry is a big, evil enterprise. Business is business… porn producers have to have a legitimate profit margin or else there’s no sense for them to be in business. [I think] Most Tgirls here in the US choose to do porn because they either want some extra spending money, or want to begin or further a career. I don’t see too many Tgirls here that NEED to do porn because it’s their only option. Now, this may be completely different overseas, but I’m not going to speak on that since I really don’t know. But, even there, I think payment, in terms of local revenue, is still pretty high for most producers.
Anyway… I’d be interested on hearing some opinions on the matter either in the thread on the Message Board or here as a comment. I, for one, think if you’re in the US or a European country, on the whole, making porn is a choice… not a necessity. Therefore, if you’re being taken advantage of it’s due to a lack of knowledge of the industry or the business sense to insure the opposite.
